Average tuition fee ranges from €2,800 to €15,000 per year. For medical or executive business programmes it may cost up to €15,000 per year.
A scholarship holder is required to make his own arrangements for insurance coverage.
A scholarship do not fully cover all the expenses related to your studies. Some expenses related to tuition fees, living costs, and other expenses must be covered personally.
Travel expenses from a home country to and from Latvia are not covered by a Latvian state scholarship.
If student is present in the territory of Latvia for less than 15 calendar days, then no scholarship is provided.
For Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD studies at Latvian higher education institutions
Amount of the scholarship
€500 per month for Bachelor’s (and 2nd level professional higher education students for 2nd and 3rd study year)
€600 per month for Master’s students (and 2nd level professional higher education students starting from 4th study year)
€700 per month for Phd students.
Eligable applicants
Bachelor's students who have already successfully completed at least 1 academic year at any higher education institution (HEI);
Master’s or PhD students from any previous HEI.
Awarded time period
Up to 10 month for Bachelor’s and Master’s students;
Up to 11 months for PhD students
Application conditions
An applicant must choose a study programme at a Latvian HEI prior to the application for a scholarship;
An applicant must receive the confirmation letter for the chosen study programme from the Latvian HEI prior to the application for a scholarship;
An applicant, who is already studying at a Latvian HEI, should also receive the confirmation letter for the present or chosen study programme prior to the application for a scholarship;
The confirmation letter for the chosen study programme from a Latvian HEI needs to be provided by the designated contact person.
The international student can receive a Latvian state scholarship for a maximum of two terms during their studies.

Include activities outside studies related to the study fi eld in Latvia or in the home country.

5. Letters of recommendation
Copies of two letters of recommendation from academic staff members, signed within the last 6 months.

An applicant has to register in the system and make a profile with a unique login and password,

fill in an application form according to the set CRITERIA;
incomplete and incorrect applications are not assessed.

attach all the necessary application documents (translated in Latvian or English),

submit the application by the deadline of the call,

receive an official decision on the award of the scholarship by e-mail in June, and the decision is available in the candidate’s profile of the electronic application system.

The Latvian state scholarship shall be granted according to the Cabinet Regulation No. 68 “Procedures for Granting Scholarships to Foreigners”

Eligible applicants
International students, academic and research staff can apply for the participation in summer schools in Latvia financed by the Latvian state scholarships;
Interested applicants may be from more than 30 eligible countries which have signed an agreement on the co-operation in education and science with Latvia and are other partner countries in Europe, Asia, North and South America and Africa;
Eligible summer schools
Application
Financial provisions
The scholarship funding will be transferred to the summer school organizers, no money will be handed out to the Latvian scholarship winners;
The participants of the summer schools must cover travel expenses from the country of origin to the summer school location in Latvia, as well as insurance and visa expenses by themselves;
The necessary documents for the summer schools must be submitted directly to the organizers of the summer schools;
The organizers will inform all the applicants about the results of the scholarship competition.
