Five Latvian universities ranked in the THE Impact Rankings 2021

Five Latvian universitiesare ranked in the Times Higher Education (THE) University Impact Rankings 2021, released on the 21st of April 2021.

THE University Impact Rankings show how the global higher education sector is working towards the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)*. It captures universities’ impact on society based on institutions’ success in delivering the 17 SDGs, reflecting work done and highlighting significant endeavors that are not rated in rankings of other classifications, providing comprehensive and balanced comparison across four broad areas - research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching.

University of Latvia (UL) – ranked 201 - 300

The University of Latvia ranks in the group of 201-300, thus ranked amongst the world's TOP 200 universities according to three Sustainable Development Goals.

The University of Latvia excels in categories “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (101st–200th place), “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” (101st–200th place), as well as “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure” (101st–200th place).

Riga Technical University (RTU) – ranked 201 - 300

Riga Technical University is ranked in the group of 201-300. The highest results RTU has achieved in the categories of “Climate Action”, sharing the 64th place, and “Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure”, achieving the 82nd place in the ranking, thus ranked amongst TOP 100 universities in these two Sustainable Development Goals.

RTU also has high results in the category of “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (101st–200th place), as well as in the categories of “Affordable and clean energy” (201st - 300th place), “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (201st - 300th) and “Responsible Consumption and Production” (201st -300th place).

Rīga Stradiņš University (RSU) – ranked 301 - 400

Rīga Stradiņš University is ranked in the group of 301-400 and has achieved the highest rating in the goal of “Good health and well-being”, sharing the high 28th place in the ranking.

RSU efforts to achieve the goals of “Peace, Justice and Strong institutions” (201st–300th place), and “Decent Work and Economic Growth” (301st–400th place) and “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (301st–400thplace) are also highly valued.

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) – ranked 601– 800

Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies is ranked in the group of 601 – 800.

LLU has showed the best result in the goal of “Life on Land” (201st -300th place), as well as the results are valued in the categories of “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” (301st –400th place) and “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (301-400).

Liepaja University (LiepU) – ranked 801–1000

Liepaja University is ranked in the group of 801-1000 and has entered THE Impact ranking for the first time.

The best result has been achieved in the category of “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (301st -400thplace), then comes the “Gender Quality” (401st -600th place) and “Responsible Consumption and Production” (401+ place).

1115 universities from 94 countries and regions were evaluated

The overall ranking is led by a UK university for the first time - the University of Manchester. Three Australian institutions complete the top four - the University of Sydney, RMIT University and La Trobe University. 

The top institution from an emerging economy is Thailand’s Chulalongkorn University at joint 23rd place. Russia is the most-represented nation in the table with 75 institutions, followed by Japan with 73.
